Will you be able to judge my city created on a Mac via the PC version of SimCity 4?
Yes, as long as the file is readable by the PC, we will be able to import it into the PC version of SimCity 4.
Do I need to include the cities that my city is connected to?
If you have neighborhood deals established in your city, please include your cities your city is connected to.
How should I submit my city (or cities) to the Future City Colorado Regional?
Please copy your competition city, and any neighboring cities if you have neighborhood deals, to a CD-ROM disc and submit to the regional coordinator.
Does the MAC Version of the software operate the same as the PC Version?
Yes, if you get the SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition for MAC, it operates the same as the SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition for PC.
How do I update the SimCity 4 Deluxe Software?
1. Go to the following website - http://simcity.ea.com/index.php - and register.
2. Once you have registered, please login and you will get a link to update the software at the top right hand of their screen.
3. It will check to see if you need to install a newer version.
This appears to be more important for Windows users.
How do I receive a region from my team?
If you receive a region from your team, you can do the following to use it on a Windows system:
- If you receive it via e-mail as an attachment, click on the Save Attachment (or Save File) option in your e-mail program.
- Open up My Documents (PC) or Documents (MAC) on your computer. If your computer has multiple users, then the folder may be named Users Documents (i.e. David Davenport's Documents) versus My Documents. Put it into the Documents folder for the username that you play SimCity 4 with.
- Double Click on the SimCity 4 Deluxe folder.
- Double Click on the Regions folder.
- Create a new folder by clicking on new folder icon (
- PC) or sprocket symbol (MAC) at the top of the window. It will then create a new folder with the name of New Folder, change it to the region name. Then click on that folder until it puts you into the folder and then save your e-mail file. If the file is a zip file, please unzip it with your favorite utility.
- Start SimCity 4.
- You should go into the Region View. Click on the Region View Options button.

- Then Click on the Load Region Button

If you placed the directory correctly, it should be listed in your selection window (like following picture).

- Click on Load Region and your region should be replaced with my region. It should resemble the picture below.

If you receive a city from your team via email and wish to load it into SimCity 4 on the PC, you will need to do the following:
- If you receive it via e-mail as an attachment, click on the Save Attachment (or Save File) option in your e-mail program.
- Open up My Documents on your computer. If your computer has multiple users, then the folder may be named Users Documents (i.e. David Davenport's Documents) versus My Documents. Put it into the Documents folder for the username that you play SimCity 4 with.
- Double Click on the SimCity 4 Deluxe folder.
- Double Click on the Regions folder.
- Click on the directory called Timbuktu to open it up there. This is the default region for SimCity 4.

- Save your city in the Timbuktu folder.
- Start SimCity 4.
- You should go into the Region View. Find a blank medium sized city tile.
- Click on that tile and you should get following graphic:

- Click on the Import City button.

- You will then get the list of regions underneath your SimCity Data folder in you MyDocuments folder. Click on Timbuktu Directory and it will expand out to show you the cities available there. Click on the city name you wish to import.

- Click on the Import City button and it will load the city you desired into the selected tile. You should now be able to play the city.
- Save your city in SimCity 4 and exit the application
- Open up your My Documents folder. If your computer has multiple users, then the folder may be named Users Documents (i.e. David Davenport's Documents) versus My Documents. Put it into the Documents folder for the username that you play SimCity 4 with.
- Double Click on the SimCity 4 Deluxe folder.
- Double Click on the Regions folder.
- Double Click on the Timbuktu folder (if using the default SimCity 4 Region) or the folder that has the same name as your region (If you created your own region).
- You should get a list of cities in your region. Verify that your city is listed.
- If it is not, check the other folders in the Region folder.
- If you still don't find it, if you are on a computer with multiple users, repeat steps 2-5 for the other users on the computer.
- If you are saving to a network drive, please contact your network administrator for instructions on how to access this directory on your network.
- Insert a blank CD into your CD Writer drive. Windows will normally prompt you for action, select Open writable CD Folder using Windows Explorer option.

- Drag your city from the folder opened in step 6 into the folder you open in step 7. Repeat until all the cities you wish to submit are on the CD folder.
- Click on the Write these files to CD Button.

- Accept the CD name it gives you and let it write the CD.
- When complete, submit the CD to the Regional Coordinator for competition review.
- Save your city in SimCity 4 and exit the application.
- Open up your hard drive by clicking on the desktop icon.
- Open up your Users folder on your hard drive.
- Open up the folder of the user you are playing SimCity with.
- Open up the Documents folder.
- Open up the SimCity 4 folder.
- Open up the Regions folder.
- Insert a blank CD into your CD-Writer Drive. You will get a pop-up window. Make sure the option Open in Finder is selected and hit OK.
- Drag the Region folder or .sc4 file you want to copy to the Untitled Icon displayed in the finder window
- Click on the Untitled Icon displayed in the finder window.
- Click on the burn icon in the upper right corner of the window.
- Give the CD a name - recommend your city name with underscores (_) replacing spaces or special characters.
- Click on the Burn button.
- When complete, eject the CD and submit to the competition.
